The Midi Pyrenees is an area rich in history and offers a wealth of amazing sites that are worth visiting and are all easy day trips from here. The region is a part of the Pays Cathare and there are many fortresses and churches to see on the Cathare trail.
Albi home to the Lautrec Museum, dedicated to the artist born in the city in 1864. Albi is just over an hour from here and makes a perfect day trip when combined with the beautiful Cordes sur Ciel which is one of the most significant medieval towns in France and is a further 30 minutes from Albi.
Carcassonne is one of the most visited places in the whole of France due to its restored medieval town
There is a market held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning and there are a number of concerts and events throughout the summer.
It can be reached in 50 minutes and can be combined with a visit to some other beautiful towns in that area such as: Limoux where the first sparkling wine was produced in France (tasting visits available at most producers) Mirepoix a bastide town with a market every Monday morning. St Papoul and the Abbey. Castelnaudary home to the famous French dish of Cassoulet. Saissac and Montolieu the village of books. La Grasse is a great place to visit where exploring the wine regions of the Corbieres and Minervois. Minerve is also a highlight of this area.
Toulouse the beautiful Ville Rose (pink city) is a vibrant mix of ancient architecture, Spanish influence and youthful energy. It is a great city with excellent restaurants and a wide range of activities to keep you amused.This isn't a touristy city and so it is worth visiting year round. During the summer there are many concerts in the Place du Capitole. It is also home to a Christmas market and ice skating rink in December. Eating in one of the restaurants above the market at Victor Hugo really is a delight. Toulouse is 40 minutes from us.
The
Mediterranean Sea can be reached in less than hour. We think that the beach at Guissan is one of the nicest. If you are heading to the coast, a must see is Collioure a very picturesque village by the sea that inspired Matisse and Picasso.
Andorra is a haven for shoppers interested in saving - tax here is just 4%. Electronic goods such as cameras and perfume are particularly good value. Of course Andorra is also a great location for ski-ing with 193kms of ski slopes.
